Trimble 5700
I have a 5700 static setup with a zephyr antenna. When I set it up and turn it on I can see that it’s tracking satellites after a minute or so. When I try to log data the logging indicator just flashes quick for a minute and goes off. Is the 8 GB CF card I installed too big or something?
Also, data trimble data transfer won’t find the receiver with the USB, but I suspect it may be the same issue with the memory card.

The card is too big, try to find a 64mb or something similar. I ran into that problem once a long time ago and forgot about it.

The above link says 128MB is the largest option, not sure how accurate that is though. :-S

Get a USB to 9 pin adapter and rename one of your USB ports to Com1 or Com2 or whatever you normally used. Then your 9 pin to lemo will recognize the device and d/l it. Also, the 128 is all that is necessary as the 5700 (unlike the R8) used crazy cool compression on those files and while it doesn’t seem like much, my R8 hates when I don’t download data but my 5700 has data files going back to 2006! 🙂

I have use 2Gb CF cards in mine for years. Just be sure to by high end cards. I’m using Sandisk Extremes.

A long time ago, I had a similar problem with Leica gear and “the bigger” cards.
If I formatted the cards in the Leica controller, all was good (just a little slower to write).

Check the formatting of your CF card?
2 GB is typically (there are exceptions) the upper limit for FAT16.
Above 2 GB generally requires FAT32 or some other format.
It may be possible to format your 8-GB card to FAT16, may end up appearing and working as a 2-GB volume while in that format.
Would recommend doing the full format available via GPS Configurator. Formatting in the 5700 only does a “quick format” but that may work as well, I dunno.
