So, what does Kent do; he brings up examples of BLM doing corrective resurveys in Wyoming. He simply can’t tell the difference between his practice of pulling what he considers erroneous monuments that do not fall on his instrument straight line and
BLM who was notified that they missed a private survey monument and made the judgement to go back and accept that 2 bit rebar for the true corner and correct all the other proportioned corners that were consequently in the wrong place.They pulled the 2 bit rebar, put it inside a standard stainless steel post, planted that post in the exact location of the 2 bit rebar, thus preserving the location and then moved the other proportioned corner monuments that were tied to this corner.
Now it does not take a whole lot of thought to see the intended confusion here and only Kent is confused and can’t see the difference in how he moves private survey corner monuments and how BLM accepts private survey monuments.
Yes, Fauk, BLM uses several different types of monuments, some are galvanized, some are stainless steel, some are copper coated and do not use sticks and stones anymore.
This entire asinine sequence of intentional bad mouthing of BLM has only been to attempt to show that Kent’s method of pulling private survey corners is ok?
Well it isn’t ok, and I would like to see other Texas land surveyors stand up and tell us that practice is ok in Texas and that they do it too.
How about it, Texas land surveyors?
Are there any readers here from the Texas Survey Board and want to comment on this practice?
And to the kids that posted nonsense posts about me, get a clue!

why do you have to disparage the work of that private surveyor that showed the BLM their errors? You should send him a thank you note.
I’ll take a “two bit rebar” in the correct position over a brass cap that’s wrong any day of the week.

I preferred your post down below. The bold text made it stand out more. This one is is just sad and boring looking by comparison. And for some reason, the lack of changing text sizes and bold, etc. just seems to make this one seem longer.
But I admire your willingness to argue this for a 4th day with Super Surveyor®. As for me, he is not worth the waste in time. It will not show him that sometimes you gotta leave an iron that you do not agree with. He finds himself perfect and incapable of being incorrect.

Keith is not disparaging the work of the private land surveyor.
The BLM used his position as monumented but replaced the monument with a much more substantial monument. This is normal practice for them.

And as we can readily see, it is useless to argue with Kent but his analogy to BLM and his practice is there for all to see.

Take it as a compliment. The only ones he appears to hold in as high a regard as himself is the BLM, that is why he wants to equate what he is doing to the level of the BLM keeping the public domain safe. Kent sees himself equal to the government! LOL

Well, Dave, I think the fact that Keith can’t even bring himself to admit the BLM surveyors made an actual error is important. He said..

As if they could have made the decision to ignore a monument in the CORRECT position if they wanted to!
Keith just has to call it a ‘2 bit’ rebar, when in fact, the description of this monument on the plat in question makes NO SUCH remark.
It’s called out as a 24″ long, 5/8″ rebar with an Aluminum Cap, set firmly in the ground, projecting 5″ and stamped appropriately.
I don’t have a problem with them re-setting the way they did, but let’s not pretend they found some snaggle tooth, bent piece of wire hanger.

This stuff seems to turn personal.
My original post that started this latest round was not meant to be a slam on BLM although I can see how it can be taken that way. We are still human and make mistakes and sometimes the mistakes can be corrected later and sometimes it’s best not to correct them.
Obviously BLM is willing to put serious resources into correcting correctable mistakes and they put in decent monuments instead of the usual short piece of rebar with plastic cap.
Kent is careful to make his posts appear professionally written but his persistence tends to reveal something about his intentions. There’s an interpersonal history between two people here and I think they should cool it.

There’s the sporting event mentality. We have two boxers in the ring and you get the other posters being the respective cheering sections.
The other thing about BLM monuments, if you don’t know they’ve been there it’s kind of hard to miss their monuments. They don’t put a 2 bit piece of rebar buried 2″ down that you don’t even know to look for. They put in big knee-cap breakers that are hard to miss. Since I’ve been working on the government side I’ve put in some big obvious monuments. In the private land development business we would never spend more than 2 minutes putting in a monument, that would eat into profits.

See, that is the part I always liked
setting the monuments. I would make sure they could be found and would, especially in wooded areas, flag them up like Christmas! I wanted someone to know where I was opining the boundary corner to be BEFORE releasing my map. I never got the idea of why you would want to hide your corner. Isn’t that what you are being paid for, to show the property owners what they own to?
