Survey related drawing names in National CAD Standards format
Posted by sek-surveyor on February 26, 2019 at 1:26 amI am curious if anyone has example survey drawing names that meet NCS standards that they would be willing to share. Specifically, I am looking for example filenames for basemap, aerial, property, ALTA, and surface drawings. From what I can see, the NCS is more of a guideline than a clear standard.

DRThe following is from my response to this topic on October 6, 2016:
There is a free option that is National CAD standard compliant. The U.S. Department of Defense A/E/C Standard (Link updated February 26, 2016) that has been mentioned here a number of times The following is from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers CAD BIM Technology Center (linked above) web site:
The A/E/C CAD Standard and A/E/C Graphics Standard documents have been developed by the CAD/BIM Technology Center to eliminate redundant Computer-Aided Design (CAD) standardization efforts within the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Federal Government. These documents are part of an initiative to develop a nonproprietary CAD standard that incorporates existing industry, national, and international standards and to develop data standards that address the entire life cycle of facilities within the DoD.
Documentation and files for both AutoCAD and Microstation are available for download from the site. The “A/E/C Standards” button on the above linked page provides additional links to download standards manuals, AutoCAD (DWG) templates, MicroStation (DGN) seed files, as well as symbols in the form of AutoCAD blocks and MicroStation cells. While there is no charge the downloads require registering an email address and password. This provides a way for the Corps to notify users of updates to the standard. Through the winter of 2012 I provided version 4 of this standard to students in a MicroStation course that required use of the standard.

Name of the drawing, or name of the drawing file?
The drawing name and sheet numbering include/reflect the CAD file names in the drawing/print title block. Looking at a set of paper prints will lead you back the the CAD file names and paper space/model space organization of the printed sheet. The A/E/C CAD standards manual I reference above dedicates an entire chapter to sheet and file naming standards. All Survey files include the discipline designation “V” in at a specific location in the file name and the printed sheet numbering.

Thank you all for your input.
I am trying to determine a “standard” for the naming of the typical survey drawing files. I was hoping that Section 1.4.2.2.1 Naming Model Files portion of the NCS standards had already been deciphered by someone.
