Best thing to do with the new diesels is to not buy one. Lots of headaches and reliability issues and if you end up paying for repairs beyond warranty it will hurt.
The pushrod gas v8 was probably a good choice. My Silverado is basically a smaller Corvette engine but with a cast iron block.
