MOUNT DANA (HR2738)
The last time I hiked to Dana Peak was in 2009, and at the time I didn’t see any reason to go back. But this year I decided to see what being an old man really means, so my wife, our son and his girlfriend set out from Tioga Pass and assailed the mountain. What I learned is that making the hike at age 56 is a lot easier than at age 70, and takes at least half an hour less time. But the rewards are the same, and well worth the effort — spectacular 360° views. Just don’t look for me on the summit at age 80.
The station disk is in the same condition as described in my 2005 recovery note. I found RM1, but not RM2.
It was a wonderful day to be alive.
Looking west toward Tioga Pass.
