Leica Captivate Users-Potential Purchase
So I’m probably going to upgrade my GPS Rover / Base Configuration. Looking at the GS14 / GS15 with the CS20 Controller with the Captivate software.
I’m currently on Carlson Office with embedded AutoCAd and Carlson Surv CE in the field. With the Captivate software I’ve watched the linework and coding YouTube videos but when the XML Files are imported to CAD does all of the linework go to one layer?
Can you choose the layer a certain Code with a 2D or 3D line will go to?
I’m kind of confused once all of the pretty linework is drawn in the CS20 do you still run Field to Finish on the linework in Carlson?
If so it seems like the linework would be re-drawn and not connect as it looks like in Captivate?What am I missing.
Plan to demo the equipment on Wednesday and wanted to a little more research with end-users…

Don’t have a lot of experience with the software, only used it for a couple of hours.
The controller seemed very nice and was great in the sun.Wondering about the linework capabilities myself.

You have MANY options
Yes, you can chose to export a layer for each code you use. That is my preferred method.
Make sure you have your dealer show you the Field to Finish. I would have him show you how to do a cross-section and bring it into your Cad software. Leica is really focusing education for it’s dealers and users, this is one of there topics they are really focusing on and your dealer should be able to show you.

I’m taking my Sony DSLR Camera to video the demo sessions and I’ll post a link to some YouTube videos I plan to publish once I get the coding ans linework down.

We’ve been very happy with the captivate software in general. Few quirks but we like it. The linework stuff actually goes really fast and works well. We set up a codelist in GeoOffice that the field guys use with attributes, etc. We export the .xml file using a stylesheet that I got from Leica and import that into Civil 3D. I can’t seem to get the layer control from the codelist to do anything but we use the figure library to handle that. To edit the figures you have to use the figure editing commands rather than the standard modify commands but they work really well in the 3D environment. Few quirks here and there but it works good for us.

the new firmware (1.30) fixes some of our issues but not all of them
