Lawton Blog-New Stuff
Well, this week hss been a busy week for us with ongoing projects all over town but yet we found some time to take delivery of our new workstation 64 bit computers. And the latest versions of AutoCAD products (Map, Civil 3D, and several other product bundled).
There was a problem installing 2012 Map but I’ve been using both the Civil 3D and just Autocad 2012. I really like them both and they whizz right along on the new machines.
Our IT guy was trying to fix my Map install remotely. I call this ghosts in the machine because when they take over stuff happens and you are left as a spectator. And it even has a little chat box if they need to ask you a question. He did the repair and a few other things but nothing work so he needed me to insert the geek whistle that the products came on to do a complete re-install. The message “I’m good and all, but I think you will have to insert the geek drive for me”.
I would have freaked if he had been able to do that remotely. I guess you had to be there.
It turned out to not be a faulty install but since he did it under his name the profiles and all the pointers were for him. When I logged on it would crash because I didn’t have his drives nor his permissions. He gave me admin right and installed it and presto, all is good in mudville. So if you get a bunch of grief installing at a company than you might just be aware of that.
I run Topcon Tools using the dongle (Sentinel Lock) and it didn’t work but I got a 64 bit (free) upgrade to the Sentinel and after loading it then Tools works just fine.
No problems with any MS products, Snagit, Mobile Mapper Office, Forsight DXM or anything else tested so far.
I’m very pleased with it so far. And I supposed I should be for the price of this stuff. Now it’s time to sit on the porch and wait for the rain with my two friends.
And tomorrow night is booty blocking on the floor with my Roller Derby Ladies. Yes, it’s been a good week and things are improving.
