I am having a senior moment
Posted by just-a-surveyor on March 3, 2019 at 4:04 pmOn my template drawing I have what I call little ghost dots from where a block from my legend had been inserted and erased but when I zoom in or out it shows as a little dot that cannot be erased and when I zoom extents is all boogered up because those little dots are at 0,0, and my drawing is in SPC.
What is the command to display all those blocks and erase them?
PURGE DOES NOT WORK
Does this sound like some incoherent babble? The techs from Carlson showed me how to do it once but I forget…hence the senior moment.

Used to be, in an older version, I would always fight the Point Manager leaving those ‘dots’.
There’s probably an intelligent way to erase them. My way was to remember the layer (or query the point details) turn off every other layer and erase.

I am quite disappointed, this post has been viewed 142 times and nobody has pointed me in the right direction to fix my problem.
Some sorry experts all y’all are.

R.J., there is nothing to erase but those dots are the insertion point of a block that has been erased, yet those blasted dots are still there. I wish I could remember how the folks at Carlson told me to do this.
-
I know; had the same problem once. Can’t remember either:)

Hello Mr. Surveyor,
It has been a long time since CAD for me but i’ll give my 0.02. Try zooming the extents of the drawing. Then zoom out further than that. Then try erasing around the “edges” of the drawing with a crossing window. Sometimes phantom pieces of the block that is leaving the dots may remain till they are eliminated. No guartantees from me, but give it a try.
Crossing my fingers.

Sir, that was the first thing I did.
I’m not as dumb as I look, it’s close but I’m not that dumb.

Check to see if it is related to Blips, or blips mode. It happened to me a long time ago, it is supposed to be a dot from an insertion point that you can use as reference (temporarily). Blips mode should give you an option of 0 or 1 (on and off).

Regen. Then pull out very far. Region all. Zoom extents. Gone.

Getter dumber every day. Sheet! Maybe I can do this now. Finally figured out what the little symbol means. Did not recognize it to mean “edit”.

It could be a myriad of things ranging from an orphaned custom object (such as those left by Autodesk Civil3D), to a non-typical block insertion to perhaps something I haven’t even considered. Based on common things I’ve seen in the past, it’s possible there is a title block near the origin with some project data out at State Plane coordinates resulting in an extremely large zoom scale factor when a Zoom Extents is issued. Not knowing if there are actual points at State Plane coordinates, try the following:
- At the Command prompt, issue Zoom — Center (Z [Enter] C [Enter])
- When prompted for the Center of view, issue the 0,0 coordinate and press Enter.
- When prompted to Enter zoom factor (nX/nXP), or view height, supply a value of (say) 80 and press Enter.
This action should display everything around the origin within a circle whose diameter is 80 units (e.g. 80′). From here you should be able to see (or determine) if there is anything at or near the origin that is causing the problem. Adjust the above procedure above as needed if you’re not seeing the desired results.
Presuming you do see something, zoom out (typically with the wheel action of a mouse) so you can fully see the content near the origin and then draw a closed polyline around the content at the origin. Then, explore the Edit — Erase — Erase by Closed Polyline command. The resulting dialog box allows you to specify the the content inside or outside the selected polyline should be removed.
If this isn’t it, feel free to send me the drawing file (lnelsonATcarlsonswDOTcom) with information about what you’re expecting to see and I’ll see what could be causing the problem.
I hope this information helps.

Have you tried DDPTYPE
Can you use DDPTYPE?
Change the nodes from null to something like an X with some size, like 4.
Then delete away…
-
Sounds like maybe empty text entities or zero length lines or something like that. I find that if I Ctrl+A to select everything, then Shift and Window everything I want to keep, in these situations there will still be something in the selection set. Just delete, and that should take care of it.

Practicly everyone here is also a senior, take it easy on us.

Use the eraseout command. Pick the window around the stuff you want to keep and press enter.
If that doesnt work go to the Carlson file menu and go to drawing cleanup. Pick the erase blank hatches and text entities. Look everything over in those options before proceeding and then click ok.
Then let me know if I won the guessing game!

I’m thinking maybe you need to clean the snot spots off your monitor.
One thing you maybe haven’t tried is AUDITing your drawing for errors.
-
If the audit doesn’t cure it and you are at the end of the road with the problem the cure may be to wblock the entities you can select (from both model space and paper space of course) and bring them all into a clean drawing. I had a file with ghost entities before and this solved the problem.

You cannot purge a block that exists in the drawing. Try redefining your old title block to a line of circle or random element. Type block and find your tblock in the pulldown recreate it but select a random line of circle for the definition. Once done this may allow you to delete the offending block and purge it.

"ghost dots"
Could they be nodes
If so make sure that you have then selected on your ONSNAP settings
