How to use UCS in Intellicad/Autocad
Posted by totalsurv on December 1, 2015 at 6:44 pmI am using Carlson 2011 with Intellicad 6.6. I have some elevations of a building that are on a specific East view i.e. the objects are in their correct world location but the ucs for them is a user created one based on the east elevation of the building. I would like to copy these objects to the plan view of the WCS in the drawing so that they would look the same as in the East view . How might I achieve this? I have done it before but just can’t figure it out again.

Not sure, but with this friendly bump to the top hopefully someone who does know will help you out.

I’m not sure I exactly follow the question (or the ultimate goal) but if the objects are in their correct World location, might the solution be to use a Layout with two separate model views? You could create one model viewport to show the plan view and a second model viewport to show the model from an East elevation aspect?

Create a wblock of what you want to place int the plan view from the drawing with the user coordinates, then insert it in the other drawing with world corrdinates.

I’m with Ladd Nelson. Don’t understand just what it is you wish to do. However, I believe that using “xref” (cross reference) function will accomplish what you need. But, without knowing precisely what needs to be accomplished, “it depends!”

Ok it works in AutoCAD but not in Intellicad for some reason. When I copy an object by base point from one ucs and paste to another it retains the wcs co-ordinates in Intellicad but in AutoCAD it pastes as a plan view into wcs. It’s difficult to explain exactly what I am doing but it seems to be an Intellicad issue.

If you’d care to send me a copy of the source DWG (lnelsonATcarlsonswDOTcom) and a copy of the resulting drawing you get with AutoCAD, I’ll try to load up Carlson 2011 with its version of IntelliCAD to see if I can replicate. However, if it turns out to be a bug with that version of IntelliCAD, we will not be able to go back and fix that problem. It’s entirely possible that the problem no longer exists with Carlson 2016 and the IntelliCAD 8.1 engine it offers. If you’d like to try a 30-day evaluation of Carlson 2016 to make sure, you can do so through our “Demo Request” page. I hope this information helps.

Try under “edit”, “Clipboard”. Select “Copy” and window your items. Then open the new drawing and go back to “Clipboard” and select “Paste to original coordinates”.
