How adjust portable barometer?
I picked up an old Taylor SMT-5-51 aneroid barometer at a sale. It seems to read pressure okay, and I can calibrate it with a screw on the back.
It also has an elevation scale, which seems to be stuck at an unreasonable value. I think you are supposed to rotate the front ring to move the elevation scale relative to the pressure scale, but it is stuck solid.
Any words of wisdom for me?

Try heat, work it gently, heat. Like a hair dryer on low.

If it??s a part they oiled or greased then it turns to glue.
I have a Taylor barometer that probably has not been out of its case for 30 years, also marked SMT-5-51, but apparently mine is for higher elevations.
The outer “FEET ALTITUDE” scale on mine goes from 0 – 16000 and the “HAND LIMIT” is at 17.1 in Hg.
When I uncased it this evening the outer ring turned but was rough and uneven. I worked a tiny bit (much less than a drop) of Permatex Super Lube 82333 into the joint between the outer ring and the main case and now it turns smoothly.
I suppose any light oil would work as well, apply sparingly!

I??m fortunate. I have a Pailin micro barometer. I have HP41 routine to calculate the pressure altitude based on ??altimeter setting?? (I live right by a reporting station).
I also wrote HP41 program to take 29.92 pressure altitude and correct for station pressure.
And I find the station pressure in iPhone very good. iPhone had a barometric pressure sensor. So it??s not just repeating a weather website.
