Wishing everyone a happy Independence Day!
Back at ‘ya.
I implore everyone to get out today and do something to celebrate our great nation and our independence. Maybe when you’re out running up to the Piggly Wiggly for that extra pack of hot dog buns you could bust the speed limit by 10 or 20 mph. It is a free country and we have the right to speed on the roads for which we’ve paid…
Though keep in mind that the structure of the great documents we honor also gives the constabulary we’ve hired the freedom to detain you and cite you for misdemeanor behavior.
Freedom for all in this great nation is a truly marvelous thing. 😉

On a more historic note: Even though the very first printings of our Declaration of Independence bore the date of July 4, 1776, the Declaration wasn’t actually signed until August 2 of that year. July 4th. was only the date that all the changes and tweakings were finally agreed upon by the 2nd. Continental Congress.
But who would want to celebrate July 4th. on August 2nd.? It’s only hotter later in the summer and home made peach ice cream is so much better when the peaches ripen in late June and early July. And most of the melons are burnt up by August anyway. I’m sure our founding fathers took all of this into consideration. They were some pretty smart cookies for sure.
Everyone enjoy your holiday!
