Cable locator
Posted by beuckie on February 20, 2023 at 7:08 amHi,
I’ve got a new client who wants to indicate buried cables and pipes on his plans for further reference. Anyone use a system like a Leica DD230 or somethiong from Radiodetection for these tasks?

I borrowed a RadioDetection unit from work to chase a couple of water pipes at home, does that count?
I’ve also done survey pickup of the paint marks left behind by locating crews.
Trimble’s Access can work with a couple of brands of locator to record depth and location as you go.

My company does this work. I’m not sure exactly what equipment they use, as it’s not my department. They have a variety of remote detection gizmos, including ground penetrating radar units. The work is done according to the ASCE Standard “CI/ASCE 38-02, Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data, 2003”.

They might want to pick up a copy of the standards that’s not outdated. Â

Standards aren’t important as it is for internal use by a contractor client of mine. Also i’m in Europe where different rules apply.
I just want to know a bout a good kit to do these kind of jobs.

I have the ridgid seektech sr-20 locator along with the st-305 line transmitter and the inductive clamp. It only works for locating utilities that are active (live) or can be induced, it will also chase a sonde
