Oddly, I think the stone (36d 27’39″N) is only a few seconds of latitude north of a well documented Mason Dixon monument at “Middle Point” (36d 27’36″N).
It’s about 17,500 ft. west (3 and 1/2 arc minutes, + or -) of Middle Point, though.
I’m thinkin’ it would have to be one helluva quinkydink for some farmer to have moved it and still be within 3″ of the same longitude. Can’t explain the longitudinal difference. ?Quien sabe?
