Another by the book Section
From the same township that produced the kinked section here is another one:
All the corners are original or have so much history attached to them they might as well be, with the exception of the W1/4 which was not recovered-I think it might have been set due north of the SW corner but that puts it in a huge cut for a wide haul road, and if it was ever there, it’s long gone now.
As far as a section breakdown, most 1/16th corners in this section are set including a bar at the SE1/16 that was found during my survey, and it fit within a few tenths so I used it…….
Note the acreages along the south line of the SE1/4 it is 4200′ long and has a strong bearing, two stone monuments.

What section is this and why not show us the whole township?
It would be educational to see how the sections fit and one can get a better sense of how the township was first surveyed.
Was this a fill in of partial surveys? At least 2 sides and a part of another appear cardinal.

Just like cookies on a sheet in the oven, some of them just don’t turn out. The geometrics of the section shown aren’t really that out of whack compared to others I’ve seen. I’d be interested in the specifics, too.
My guesses are a completion survey, or a dependent resurvey, or rough and/or wooded terrain…or all of the above.

here’s what it looks like with recovered monuments:
most everything has been found including two original W1/4’s for section 6, one crew stubbed one out from the north, the other ran line from the south, missed by 900′ of course that’s speculation the notes don’t mention it.
Dont think they ran the north line, I think it was stubbed out either from the south township or the one to the north, but hard to tell. I think they continued line either from the south or north setting the township section corners and stubbed out the 1/4’s on the north lines of 2-5 from the west, again, just a guess.

I am glad to see that I’m not the only one to see these irregular shaped sections within townships that prior surveyors have bastardized even more! Working on one now that found the original section corners on the township line on the south. The section is short by 500 feet. The prior surveyors have stabbed and stubbed in the other section corners and we have a irregular shaped section. Then we have fences that don’t match and then another surveyor stabs in their survey markers at the fence corners calling them the PLSS corners and we have a MESS! Ugh….

the north line is the only real area of conflict in this township, some good surveyors spent time way back in the 20’s and 30’s recovering originals and made most of it fairly easy
