Allegro MX
Posted by Unknown Member on March 14, 2012 at 10:37 amJust curious to hear others experience of them.
I’m looking at getting one (2 years second hand) but was told today their touch screens have a short(ish) life span.
Comments appreciated thanks.Unknown Member replied 12 years, 6 months ago 3 Members · 3 Replies -

I don’t know about the MX but having used the CX for 7 years I’ve gone through 2 monocrome screens @ about $500 each. From talking with Juniper Systems who make and service these units, they said the contributing factor to the screen’s demise was the use of screen protectors. They said you should replace the screen protector in the spring & fall due to temperature changes putting stress on the screen. Plus instead of covering the whole screen, just cover the areas you use the most. So that 5 buck screen protector may be costing you big bucks later.

I have 2 collectors with touch screens, a Carlson Explorer and a Leica controller for my GPS, and I’ve never used a screen protector. Both screens look like new.
I’ve seen other screens, on other collectors, that other people use and they look terrible, hard to read, gives you a headache, terrible…..
My guess is they use nails, PK’s, anything the have on hand to peck away at the screen. I’ve never touched mine with anything harder than my fingernail and always kept them clean…..

I hope everyone has a great day; I know I will! -
thanks for comments
I have often wondered about going ‘naked’ as I too use my finger more times than a stylus and with a keyboard the screen often doesn’t get touched.
It defenitely makes a better screen without anything on it.I spoke with Juniper yesterday about their gear, and they repeated your comments Mike.
They were very helkpful which I found quite refreshing.
