Posted by [email protected] on July 29, 2010 at 3:00 amusing tds 5603, turning set one cannot shoot the reverse distnce when using autolock and the sets are running automatically…. but can you do this manually and still use the repetition routine?
thanks for your help

Actually, I thought TDS fixed that alomg time ago. I know on the original Geodimeter 600/TDS Survey Pro set-up, you could not shoot distances with the inverted scope in the “repetition mode”. However, later they changed the routine so that after the inverted HA angle is read, the scope would turn up the calculated vertical angle and shoot the distance inverted. I’ve looked through the scope during this routine and watched it do just that.
We never owned a 5600. We had a Geodimeter 600s, and then went to Spectra Precision Focus 10, all of which are basically the same gun painted different colors.
Have you looked at your raw data to make sure it’s not recorded inverted distances?

Ok, so I broke out the TDS Ranger to look at the settings.
From the main menu, click on “Repetition Shots”,
then click that little icon near the top right that looks like a folder with a green check mark (settings),
Then click the “repetition” tab.
There, I have options of “Shoot Distance to backsight”, “Do not shoot reverse distances”, and “Enable Automatic Repetition”.
Is “Do not shoot reverse distances” checked/unchecked? If it’s checked, try it “unchecked”, it works for me and my Geodimeter 600.

thanks ranger
on the setting screen
checked shoot distance to backsight
checked do not shoot reverse distances
checked enable automatic repetitionSo when the scope is inverted I collect only the HA the sd shows 0 and za is 270 0 0
I have been told that I could not shoot the distance when the scope is inverted
but maybe i can if i uncheck enable automatic repetition and reverse distances? -
thanks ranger

Originally, the TDS software would not allow reverse distances, but that has been corrected. The only reason I’d think it would not work is if your are running a very old version of TDS and haven’t kept up with the updates.
All “enable automatic repetition” does is eliminate having to push “Take Shot” everytime the gun changes target or face. It just turns the angles and distances on it’s own. Try it with “do not shoot reverse distance” unchecked, and “enable automatic repetition” checked.

well ranger
It makes sense to me that a software sequence could allow for the set to collect all the data. I am running TDS 4.6 Survey Pro Robotic AND THE FIRMWARE IS 5.0.3.. You are probably using a later version of TDS on you Focus instrument. I’ll just test it and let you know how it goes….
thanks for your help -
don’t forget in TeDiouS
you have to collect sets to your first backsight in the job then collect each foresight individually rather than collect a bunch of foresights in the same set as Carlson and even TSC1 can do.
I admit the automatic set thing is pretty cool. I can do other stuff while the machine is running; I don’t have to stand there and push the button for every shot.

So you are using Trimble’s surveyor controller? with this software you can sit on point 2 backsight 1 and turn sets to 3,4,5 within one routine set? Can you run the sets automatically or do you have to push the take shot button each time…..
wow groovey man, but i still like TDS…. works just fine, but perhaps I could check out carlson data collection, cuz i use their cad package…..
